  3. 1.What is the context of "embedded journalist"? When was it first used? Who created the term? During the War on Iraq, journalists found that they were unable to make their way into areas where fighting was going on, thus coming to an agreement with the military that the journalists would travel with specific units, reporting on their progress during the war. These embedded journalists were protected by the units with which they travelled, and were given a "front seat" to the activity in the war. They had unprecedented access to actual battles, soldiers and, often, the enemy, but at the same time were limited to information that the leaders of their unit were willing to share with them. It was first used on US military in 2003 during the invasion of Iraq.

  4. 1):Embedded journalism refers to news reporters being attached to military units involved in armed conflicts. While the term could be applied to many historical interactions between journalists and military personnel, it first came to be used in the media coverage of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The United States military responded to pressure from the country's news media who were disappointed by the level of access granted during the 1991 Gulf War and in the 2001 U.S. invasion of Afghanistan.

At the start of the war in March 2003, as many as 775 reporters and photographers were traveling as embedded journalists. [1] These reporters signed contracts with the military that limited what they were allowed to report on. [2] When asked why the military decided to embed journalists with the troops, Lt. Col. Rick Long of the U.S. Marine Corps replied, "Frankly, our job is to win the war. Part of that is information warfare. So we are going to attempt to dominate the information environment."[3]

Gina Cavallaro, a reporter for the Army Times, said, "They’re [the journalists] relying more on the military to get them where they want to go, and as a result, the military is getting smarter about getting its own story told."[4]

As an illustration of the control exerted over embedded reporters, the U.S. Coalition Forces Land Component Command in Kuwait pulled the credentials of two embedded journalists from the Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Virginia, reportedly for publishing a picture of a bullet-ridden Humvee parked in a Kuwaiti camp:

  24. 1.What is the context of "embedded journalist"? When was it first used? Who created the term? During the War on Iraq, journalists found that they were unable to make their way into areas where fighting was going on, thus coming to an agreement with the military that the journalists would travel with specific units, reporting on their progress during the war. These embedded journalists were protected by the units with which they travelled, and were given a "front seat" to the activity in the war. They had unprecedented access to actual battles, soldiers and, often, the enemy, but at the same time were limited to information that the leaders of their unit were willing to share with them. It was first used on US military in 2003 during the invasion of Iraq.

2.Muslims really honored Pope John Paul II since he made alot of progress in trying to build relationships between the Catholic-Christian community and the communities of other world religions, especially the Islamic religion. On a trip to the Ummayad Mosque in Syria, the supposed burial site of John the Baptist more familiar to Muslims as Prophet Yahya, Pope John Paul II was quoted as saying "It is my ardent hope that Muslim and Christian religious leaders and teachers will present our two great religious communities as communities in respectful dialogue, never more as communities in conflict." Pope John Paul II was also the first pope to kiss the Qu'ran and to enter a Muslim mosque http://www.rferl.org/featuresarticle/2005/04/99e8c1e7-8e93-41fb-9144-35f21f9d982d.html). Parvez Ahmed from United Press International said this of Pope John Paul II after he died "Many Muslims will rightfully remember Pope John Paul II as an advocate of justice, a bridge builder and a visionary leader. The Pope promoted his own faith without appearing condescending of others. Public figures who have espoused Islamophobic views in the past could borrow a page of tolerance from this great Christian leader." 5.
Answer: Taipei 101 is currently the world's tallest completed building on earth with its 509 m height. It is located in the East of Taipei (Xin-Yi district), the capital city of Taiwan. The tower consists of 101 stories above the ground. The top floor is at 439 m. The construction of Taipei 101 (Taipei International Financial Center previously) was started in 1999, and finished in 2004. The total cost was about 1,7 billion US dollars. This tower has the world’s fastest elevators (double-decker) they can get as fast as 63 km / h. The indoor observation deck is on the 89th floor (382m). The total weight of Taipei 101 is 700,000 tonnes, which is such a mass that could possibly make an earthquake. The structure is capable to withstand the largest earthquakes. The 800 ton damper on the top of the tower can reduce up to 40% of the movements. The Taipei 101 Mall is a 6-story shopping mall inside the building. The former tallest building was the Petronas Towers in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur with 452 m height, it only held the record for 6 years (built in 1998). The upcoming world's tallest is going to be the Burj Dubai, which has already overtaken Taipei 101, but until its finished it is not official. Exact height is unknown, but Emaar, the constructor company said it is going to be over 800m. The current plans indicate Burj Dubai at 818m. Most probably it will be finished by 2009.

  41. Embedded journalism refers to news reporters being attached to military units involved in armed conflicts.

When asked why the military decided to embed journalists with the troops, Lt. Col. Rick Long of the U.S. Marine Corps replied, "Frankly, our job is to win the war. Part of that is information warfare. So we are going to attempt to dominate the information environment.

Gina Cavallaro, a reporter for the Army Times, said, "They’re [the journalists] relying more on the military to get them where they want to go, and as a result, the military is getting smarter about getting its own story told."[4]

As an illustration of the control exerted over embedded reporters, the U.S. Coalition Forces Land Component Command in Kuwait pulled the credentials of two embedded journalists from the Virginian-Pilot newspaper in Norfolk, Virginia, reportedly for publishing a picture of a bullet-ridden Humvee parked in a Kuwaiti camp.
